ABOUT

Lorin was raised in a highly creative family of visual and performing artists. His love of design and illustration developed from copying his father's industrial design portfolio at a young age, which was compounded by exposure to his father’s college hero, Syd Mead. Not long into his early teens, he discovered the work of Star Wars visionaries Ralph McQuarrieJoe Johnston, and Nilo-Rodis Jamero. Their work informed the essential role of storytelling in visual art and design. The influence of peers and heroes continues to grow to this day.

For three decades, Lorin has amassed a wealth of experience in pre-production, early 3D previsualization (beginning professionally with his mentor David Dozoretz), visual effects art direction, game development, product design, and publication.

In 2009 he founded a blog, Nuthin’ But Mech, and populated it with a robust network of friends and acquaintances to provide high-quality professional artwork. The blog eventually spawned four books with publisher Design Studio Press with the artist's proceeds going to various charities and charitable causes.

At the end of 2017, he returned to school full-time at the University of Texas at Dallas. While a student, Patrick Hanenberger handed over his class, Mechs & Robots Entertainment Design at ArtCenter College of Design, to Lorin who subsequently taught for it two years. Shortly after, he was invited for a short-term visual development role with Sony Pictures Animation on Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse.

Currently, Lorin is working freelance on a variety of projects for high-profile visual effects studios, and completing his Master of Fine Arts in Animation.
